About the Role
We're looking for a Backend Engineer to build and scale the core systems that power Salmon's real-time data engine. You'll work on the infrastructure that ingests data from hundreds of sources, orchestrates AI agents for verification and enrichment, and delivers clean records to enterprise CRMs in real time.
A key part of this role is contributing to the Salmon Software Factory — our internal platform for rapidly building, testing, and deploying data pipelines and AI agent workflows. We treat our engineering infrastructure as a product in itself, and you'll help shape how we ship faster and more reliably as we scale.
This is a high-leverage role. The systems you build will directly determine how fast and how accurately we can process millions of records for our customers. You'll have significant autonomy and influence over our technical architecture.
What You'll Do
- Design and build the distributed data pipelines that power real-time enrichment and verification
- Develop APIs and services that integrate with Salesforce, HubSpot, and other enterprise CRMs
- Build the orchestration layer for AI agents that research, triangulate, and validate data
- Optimize system performance for processing millions of records with sub-second latency targets
- Work with structured and unstructured data from web scraping, third-party APIs, and public records
- Define and implement monitoring, alerting, and reliability practices for production systems
- Contribute to the Salmon Software Factory — our internal tooling platform for accelerating development, deployment, and iteration across the engineering org
What We're Looking For
- 4+ years of backend engineering experience building production systems at scale
- Strong proficiency in Python or TypeScript (we use both)
- Experience with distributed systems, event-driven architectures, or data pipelines
- Familiarity with PostgreSQL, Redis, and message queues (Kafka, SQS, or similar)
- Experience building and consuming REST and GraphQL APIs
- Comfort with cloud infrastructure (AWS preferred) and containerization (Docker, ECS/K8s)
Nice to Have
- Experience with LLM/AI integration in production systems (prompt engineering, RAG, agent frameworks)
- Background in data engineering, ETL pipelines, or data quality systems
- Familiarity with web scraping at scale and anti-bot mitigation
- Experience with CRM APIs (Salesforce, HubSpot) or sales intelligence platforms
